Roadworthy Certificate – Safety Certificate
A Safety Certificate is required for any light vehicle to be registered in Queensland. This includes if you are selling any REGISTERED light vehicle. Unregistered, second hand and registered interstate vehicles must have a Safety Certificate in order to be registered in Queensland.
This includes:
- Cars
- Light commercials
- 4wds
- Trailers (including caravans) with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of 0.751–3.50 tonnes
- Any other vehicles up to 4.50t gross vehicle mass (GVM)
HVRAS – Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme
A Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS) is a thorough assessment of light & heavy trailers or heavy vehicles dimensions to ensure they are within government requirements for vehicle identification markers (build/compliance plates), size and weight.
As stated by the Queensland Government – Department of Transport and Main Roads:
The objective of the HVRAS is to inspect heavy vehicles (more than 4.5 tonne gross vehicle mass) and trailers (more than 750 aggregate trailer mass) to ensure they comply with:
- dimensional limitations
- approved load sharing axle systems guidelines
- safe tyre limits
- vehicle identifiers (for example: engine number, vehicle identification number and chassis number
PLEASE NOTE:
Imported vehicles that have not been previously registered in Australia cannot be inspected and measured by HVRAS accredited persons. These imported vehicles must be sighted by the Department of Transport and Main Roads for verification with the vehicle import documents.
HVRAS is required for:
- Light Trailers – over 750kg ATM
- Special Purpose Vehicle
- Heavy Vehicles
- Heavy Trailers
- Heavy Trucks
- Heavy Semi-Trailers
- Prime Movers
- Buses
You will NEED a HVRAS if:
- The vehicle has been unregistered for over 90 days in QLD or is being transferred from interstate to QLD
- Your vehicle has had modifications carried out.
COI - Certificate of Inspection
Certificate of Inspection is required in Queensland for trucks, heavy trailers and public passenger transport vehicles (such as buses or taxis). A current COI must be ALWAYS held by the owner to these vehicles. Failure to produce a current COI when requested by Transport and Main Road officials will result in heavy penalties.
The following QLD REGISTERED vehicles require COI’s
- Heavy Trucks over 4.5t GVM up to and including 16t GVM
- Heavy Trucks over 16t GVM
- Heavy Motorhomes over 4.5t GVM up to and including 16t GVM
- Heavy Trailers over 3.5t ATM up to and including 10t ATM
- Heavy Caravans over 3.5t ATM up to and including 10t ATM
